Case summary
On February 5, 2013, Abeer Ghattas was summoned for questioning, after the lawsuit filed against her by Spinneys for previously publishing on her personal blog an article called “Michael Wright, Spinneys CEO NO MORE”, exposing the maltreatment that workers are subjected to in Spinneys supermarket.
Ghattas went to the station of the Al-Burj Brigade, in the Bashoura area, where she saw the text of the lawsuit filed against her, which was attached to an Arabic translation of her English article entitled. Her statement was recorded and her reservation about the wrong translation was recorded in the investigation report, then she was healed in the station for an hour despite the end of the investigation. She was not released until after she signed a pledge to not attack the company again. Ghattas was forced to sign the pledge under threat of 5 days arrest.
She received a call from the police station around 10pm, informing her of Spinneys’s lawyer request to delete the content on her blog. After deleting the content, the record was closed.
